General Information
Stretch those muscles, practice your long jumps! It’s time for
Wisdom Trail’s Cub
Olympians
Day Camp! Day Camp will take place Monday,
June9th through Friday, June 13th, 2008. Day
Camp will be held at Camp Wisdom Scout Camp, 6400 Red Bird Lane,
Dallas. Take the Cedar Ridge exit off I-20 and travel north. Turn
left on Red Bird Lane; Camp Wisdom will be on your left.
Opening ceremonies will begin each morning at 8:30 am at the
flagpole over the hill, to the right of Camp Headquarters. Closing
ceremonies will also be at the flagpole at 4 pm Any early pick-ups
will need to be arranged with Day Camp Headquarters and ID must be
shown at time of pick up.
This year, due to all districts going through the council for
t-shirts and patches, registration must be turned in earlier than in
years past. Also ALL registration MUST go through your packs Day
Camp Coordinator. INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
For costs see the registration form. You will note that the first
registration will be due by April 17. Fees include all the activities
of Day Camp, a Day Camp T-shirt, a Day Camp Patch (which will be
distributed the last day of day camp to the pack coordinator) and
lunch on Friday the 13th.
Registrations received after May 26th are not guaranteed
to receive Camp T-shirts or patches. Fees paid for
Day Camp are non-refundable and are not pro-rated based on the
number of days a Scout attends Day Camp. Registrations will be
accepted by Pack at the Cub Scout Roundtables at The Grace Place,
Duncanville Church of Christ, 402 W. Danieldale, Duncanville.
Adults and Teens volunteering for the entire week at Day Camp will
receive one Camp T-shirt at no cost. Extra T-shirts may be ordered
by anyone for an additional $8.00 per shirt. T-shirts will be
issued to a Pack representative at the time of the swim tests. Time
and date will be announced at the May Roundtable as well as online
at
www.wisdomtrail.org and by e-mail to Cubmasters. Please watch
for this announcement.
Day
Camp t-shirts must be worn everyday by everyone attending,
volunteering or staffing Day Camp. This is for identification and
safety purposes. Everyone (parent, grandparent, etc.) who visits
for a couple hours or the entire day must sign in at Headquarters to
receive a visitors ID badge and submit required paperwork. Any
Camper or staff person who does not have a Day Camp T-shirt must
also check in at Headquarters and receive an ID badge.
Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch everyday, except Friday. All
lunches will be refrigerated until lunch time. All lunches need to
be clearly marked with their name and Pack number on the bag. It is
strongly suggested that lunches be in throwaway containers.
Medication that is to be taken while at camp needs to be in a
Ziplock bag clearly labeled with name, unit number and when to take
the medication. Medication must be in an original prescription
container. All medication will be kept at the First Aid Center and
dispensed by the Camp Nurse. Any exceptions must be cleared through
the Camp Directors.
If your
camper has any special physical, medical or emotional needs PLEASE
note this on their Health form as well as speak with Debie Franz or
Sharon Coleman. Our goal is for everyone to have a memorable
experience while at camp and we must be made aware of special needs
in advance.
All Registration and Health& Medical Forms are to
be kept at Headquarters/First Aid Center for quick access in the
event of an emergency.

Important Cub Scout Information:
Be sure your cub
wears his camp t-shirt daily. He should also have:
-
Hat
-
Sturdy, closed toe
shoes (no thongs or sandals, except at pool)
-
Swim suit &
towel (no cut-offs, and it's best to send an old towel)
-
A plastic grocery
bag or zip lock bag to hold your boy's wet swimsuit so it
doesn't soak everything in his pack.
-
Small pack for
clothes, swim suit, towel
-
Sunblock
-
Insect repellent
-
Sack lunch, with
drink, in a paper lunch sack and his name written on it (also
for our tot-lot girls and boys). There will be a large
container for each pack to put their lunches in when arriving at
camp each morning. The container will be refrigerated
until lunch time; however, it's best not to pack items that
spoil easily. Lunch will be from noon to 1 daily.
-
A water cup.
Best to use a mug that can be hooked to belt or belt loop with a
shower curtain hook or carabiner. There will be water
available throughout the camp, but no cups. Another idea
is a plastic bottle, with handle (such as a pancake syrup
bottle), fill within 1.5 inches of top with water and put in
freezer the night before - will be a source of good, cold water
during most of the day.
The following ARE NOT
ALLOWED:
-
Radio, tape player
or computer games (Game Boys, PSPs, I-Pods, etc.)
-
Knives and tools (even if Cub
has his Wittlin' Chip card)
-
Skateboards
-
No open toed shoes
-
No pets
Cub Scout Day Camper's
Code of Conduct (review with your boy - be sure he understands):
-
Show respect for
leaders, guests, staff and other Cub Scouts
-
No bad or rude
language
-
Keep hands to
yourself; no pushing, wrestling, hitting
-
Stay with your camp
den at all times. Get your leader's permission to leave
your camp den, and always take a buddy with you.
-
No sticks, stones,
rocks, and no tree climbing.
