General Information:

Have you ever been fishing at Blue Bill Lake? Made pizza in a campfire? Used a compass to treasure hunt? Well, these are just a few of the things Scouts will get to do at Wisdom Trail’s A Camping We Will Go Day Camp 2009.   Day Camp will take place Monday, June 8th, through Friday, June 12th, 2009, at Camp Wisdom Scout Camp, 6400 W Red Bird Lane, Dallas. Take the Cedar Ridge exit off I-20 and travel north.  Turn left on Red Bird Lane; Camp Wisdom will be on your left.

Opening ceremonies will begin each morning at 8:30 a.m. at the flagpole over the hill, to the right of Camp Headquarters.  Closing ceremonies will also be at the flagpole at 4 p.m.  Early pick-ups will need to be arranged with Day Camp Headquarters and ID must be shown at time of pick up.

This year, due to all districts going through the same vendors for t-shirts and patches, registration must be turned in earlier than in years past.  Also ALL registrations MUST go through your pack’s Day Camp Coordinator.  INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED (exception: registrations turned in June 8th-12th)  For costs see the registration form.  You will note that the first registration is due in April.  Fees include all the activities of Day Camp, a Day Camp T-shirt, a Day Camp Patch (which will be distributed the last day of day camp to the pack coordinator) and lunch on Friday the 12th.  Early registrations will be accepted by Pack at the Cub Scout Roundtable (Thursday, April 16th) at The Grace Place, Duncanville Church of Christ, 402 W. Danieldale, Duncanville.  Scouts whose registration is turned in by their pack at early registration will be placed in a drawing for a fishing gear. The on time registration will be accepted by Pack from 7-8pm at The Grace Place on Thursday, May 14th.  Registrations received after May 14th are not guaranteed to receive Camp T-shirt or  patches.  Fees paid for Day Camp are non-refundable and are not pro-rated based on the number of days a Scout attends Day Camp

Tiger Camp will only be June 10th – 12th starting at 8:30am until noon.  Due to BSA National Day Camp Standards, Tiger Cubs are NOT allowed to walk with the Pack. They must have their own program because the Tiger program is a boy and his adult partner. Tigers may stay in the Ranger patrol Monday, Tuesday and after lunch (Wednesday – Friday) if their partner will be remaining to walk with an older sibling. Tiger Cub registration will be accepted by Pack on May 14th.  Adult partners must turn in their registration form at the same time. Registration fees include t-shirts for the Tiger Cub and his partner.

Adults and Teens volunteering for the entire week at Day Camp will receive one Camp T-shirt at no cost.  Extra T-shirts may be ordered by anyone for an additional $9.00 per shirt.  T-shirts will be issued to a Pack representative at the time of the swim tests.  Adults are required to take swim test as well if they wish to swim in the pool. Time and date of the swim test will be announced at the May Roundtable as well as online at www.wisdomtrail.org and by e-mail to Cubmasters.  Please watch for this announcement.  Tiger Cubs and their adult partners are not required to take the swimming test as they will be in the shallow end of the pool at all times.

Day Camp t-shirts must be worn everyday by everyone attending, volunteering or staffing Day Camp.  This is for identification and safety purposes.   Everyone (parent, grandparent, etc.) who visits for a couple hours or the entire day must sign in at Headquarters to receive a visitors ID badge and submit required paperwork.  Any Camper or staff person who does not have a Day Camp T-shirt must also check in at Headquarters and receive an ID badge.

Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch everyday, except Friday.  All lunches will be refrigerated until lunch time.  All lunches need to be clearly marked with a name and Pack number on the bag.  It is strongly suggested that lunches be in throwaway containers.

Medication that is to be taken while at camp needs to be in a Ziplock bag clearly labeled with name, unit number and when to take the medication.  Medication must be in an original prescription container.  All medication will be kept at the First Aid Center and dispensed by the Camp Nurse.  Any exceptions must be cleared through the Camp Directors.

If your camper has any special physical, medical or emotional needs PLEASE note this on their health form as well as speak with Debie Franz or Suzie McKown (see contact info, below).  Our goal is for everyone to have a memorable experience while at camp and we must be made aware of special needs in advance.

All Registration and Health & Medical Forms are to be kept at Headquarters/First Aid Center for quick access in the event of an emergency.

National Day Camp standards require that there must be at least one person in each pack trained in CPR and that person must attend day camp all week.  If your pack has more than one, then those trained adults can rotate days.  Wisdom Trail will provide CPR training on May 11 and 18.  Space is limited and the registration deadline is May 1, so sign up early.  Click here for details and registration.

Even if you have a Youth Protection card from classroom delivered training, the state of Texas requires that you MUST go through the online training because it has a written exam (choose the non-audio, it is quicker).  The state requires that this be done annually.  You must print a copy of the page that has the test result at the end and also the YOUTH PROTECTION card that will show up on the next page, it will show a current date at the bottom.   Maintain copy for your personal records.  http://scouting.org/Applications/MyScoutingFull.aspx

Texas Sex Offenders Form, https://records.txdps.state.tx.us/DPS_WEB/SorNew/index.aspx. This takes less than 2 minutes and there is no charge for the search. This has to be current (less than 60 days old).  Maintain a copy for your personal records.

All staff and full-week volunteers must be a registered Scout or Scouter.  The BSA adult and youth applications are available at: http://www.circle10.org/site/c.owL1KgN4LxH/b.1656497/k.5DED/Forms_amp_Applications.htm.   Please understand that persons who are not registered Scouters are not covered by BSA insurance.
